I want to share a conversation I had with my sixteen year old son yesterday. I asked him what he was reading these days and he told me that he was reading two books (just like Mom, who always has more than one book going at a time!). He told me that he's reading a Tom Clancy novel, and also, The Secret, by Rhonda Byrne. I asked him how he was enjoying The Secret and he told me that he's reading it with his friend, Jacob and that they like it.
A few weeks ago he shared with me that Jacob was struggling emotionally---his dad passed away about a year and a half ago. My son was trying to be supportive of his friend, and since he had been exposed ad nauseum to the movie, The Secret as it played almost non-stop in our home for months on end, he had asked my husband to by him the book to share with Jacob. All the time the movie was playing at home, my son was pretty resistant to sitting down and watching it with us, but you know how osmosis works, right? LOL
The coolest thing he said is that he and Jacob kept laughing as they read the book together. "Why are you laughing so much?" I asked. "Because it's all true!" he said.
We talked about the fact that he and Jacob apparently didn't need to work hard to open their minds to the ideas and concepts in The Secret, they were ready for its powerful message. Now THAT'S cool!
I bought him the dvd of The Secret to share with his friends and he is now carrying a 'gratitude rock' in his pocket.
It makes this all the more poignant to know that my son is struggling with his own deep emotional issues as he supports his friend. What a kid!
Wishing you a day full of EVERYDAY JOY!
Jan
